You've already made the investment in Microsoft's Windows Vista -- now what? How about new peripherals?
The Redmond, Wash. software giant's in-house hardware group is targeting new Vista owners a new wireless keyboard and mouse set with special features built into both designed to help you better use Vista.
The Wireless Laser Desktop 4000 offers a keyboard based on Microsoft's existing Comfort Curve Keyboard design, featuring a six-degree-angled key design and several established features. The keyboard is bundled with a high-definition laser mouse, the Wireless Laser Mouse 5000.
"Windows Vista has officially hit the market and we are excited to continue delivering the best hardware products to complement the dynamic computing experience of the new operating system," said Sean Butterworth, product marketing manager at Microsoft Hardware. "The Wireless Laser Desktop 4000 is the latest in our growing line of products optimized for Windows Vista and illustrates how we continue to diversify our product line to meet a broad range of consumers’ desktops needs."
As most Windows keyboards have for years, the new set's Comfort Curve Keyboard sports a Windows Start Button, which activates the Windows Start menu. The new keyboard also offers the Zoom key, which debuted on earlier Comfort Curve Keyboard models, and which enables users to zoom in and out of digital graphics. Another return feature is customizable My Favorites keys and hot keys to launch users' IM, e-mail and Web browsers.
A new addition to the mix, however, is the Windows Gadget Button, which launches Windows Gadgets -- tiny desktop applications offering information like weather, news, and stock quote.
Also new to the keyboard is the Windows LiveCall Button -- launching a VOIP or video conference session courtesy of the Windows Live service of the same name.
On the Wireless Laser Mouse 5000, an Instant Viewer tool enables users to click to instantly view all open windows at once. Similarly, another mouse enhancement is the Magnifier tool, which enlarges select portions of the screen in real-time.
The mouse also includes the popular Tilt Wheel feature, offering four-way scrolling from the mouse itself.
The Microsoft Wireless Laser Desktop 4000 keyboard-and-mouse package is scheduled to ship in April, and carries an estimated retail price of $79.95.
